The idea of eating something sour and actually having it taste sweet may seem like a distant fantasy but in reality, there is a miracle fruit out there that can alter your taste buds.

Once you have had the miracle fruit, you will be able to nosh on a lemon and lime and have it taste the same as a piece of candy. If you are anything like us, you are probably wondering how that is even possible.

According to Britannica, the fruit is known as Synsepalum dulcificum and is native to the region of West Africa.

However, most people do not call it by its actual name. They refer to it as a “miracle fruit” or “miracle berry,” and rightfully so. Once it has been consumed, sour foods will taste sweet. Of course, there is a very reasonable scientific explanation for this one.

According to Britannica, these fruits contain a specialized molecule known as miraculin. The fleshy part of the fruit is what is responsible for the transformation. As soon as it has been consumed, the aforementioned molecule will bind to the tongue. It attaches itself right to the taste buds and is one of the biggest game changers that you are ever going to come across.

The change in taste lasts for at least 30 minutes. The zing that sour foods always tend to have is gone and replaced by the taste of candy.

Some claim that beer and tomatoes transform in flavor to taste more like sweet juice and candy.
