Some breakfasts seem as if they belong on the menu, such as bacon and eggs, or French toast. There are others, however, that seem to dance on the edge, but they sometimes turn out to be a hidden delight.

That is how many people are feeling about the Mayoegg.

No, I’m not talking about mayonnaise and egg breakfast from Arrested Development. I’m talking about a real breakfast, and many who have tried it are singing its praises.

It seems as if this isn’t anything new but, for the most part, it has been forgotten. That vintage recipe managed to get a revival after u/Marchkick posted it on the r/OldRecipes subreddit.

The recipe is fairly simple. You just make scrambled eggs but you add a tablespoon of mayo for every 2 eggs that are in the recipe. Mix it together and cook it.

You may never have heard of “Best Foods” mayonnaise, but it is actually the same a Hellmann’s. Those who live on the West Coast will be familiar with it but if you live in another part of the country, you can purchase the same thing in a Hellmann’s bottle.

One other part of the recipe is to use margarine to keep the mayo scrambled eggs from sticking to the pan.

It wasn’t long after the vintage recipe was posted that it picked up steam and went viral. This really shouldn’t be a surprise. Mayonnaise is a popular addition to eggs in many classic recipes, from egg salad to deviled eggs.

After making the rounds on Reddit, the recipe was given a bump on TikTok as well. This time, it was in the form of microwaved eggs that included mayo in the recipe. Check it out below:
