Mauna Loa Recalls Macadamia Nut Products Due To Possible E.coli Contamination

Mauna Loa Nut Recall

Retailers of Mauna Loa macadamia nut products have been asked to remove these items from store shelves, and consumers who may have purchased Mauna Loa nut products have been asked to return the items to stores for a refund or to discard due to a possible E.coli contamination. This is a voluntary recall done by the company on September 6, 2018 after E.coli was detected in the processing plant’s water and distribution system.

All Mauna Loa products received after September 6th are to be returned or disposed of in order to prevent possible E.coli contamination. The Hawaii State Department of Health closed food production at the plant on Hawaii’s Big Island on September 21, as evidence suggested possible contamination. They are currently working with facility managers at Mauna Loa’s Kea’au processing plant to address this contamination issue. It will remain closed until the matter has been fully resolved.

There are currently no reported cases of illness due to E.coli contamination from Mauna Loa products. If you have purchased Mauna Loa products after September 6, 2018, return it to the place of purchase or dispose of the product.
