Maple Cream Crinkle Horizontal 3

As sad as it is to see another amazing summer wind down, the promise of cozy fall foods is all it takes to cheer me up. Cinnamon, pumpkin, apples, maple– fall brings some of my very favorite flavors and baking is the perfect activity on a crisp autumn day. The treat I have for you today is a brand new recipe based on the traditional Greek crinkle cake, but with a fall twist. I introduce to you… the Maple Cream Crinkle!

I absolutely love the flavors and texture of the traditional crinkle–it’s made by folding phyllo dough like an accordion and then pouring a sweet egg custard over the top. It results in a stunning dessert, but in reality it’s so simple to make. I’ve made some small tweaks to that recipe to make a show stopping fall dessert that put the maple flavor front and center.

This treat would be perfect for Thanksgiving dessert or a fall potluck, but we wouldn’t judge you for making it for no occasion at all. If you’re feeling extra indulgent this dish could even be served as a sweet breakfast treat. Give this easy recipe a try and you’re sure to have a new favorite on your hands!

Ingredients
  • 1 (1 lb) box phyllo dough, thawed
  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup maple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons maple extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Glaze
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Pick up two sheets of phyllo dough at a time and crinkle them in accordion folds. Fit folded dough into the prepared baking dish and repeat the process until you’ve worked through both rolls of dough. Fluff folds to ensure they’re evenly spaced.
  3. Bake folded dough for 10 minutes.
  4. Remove dough from oven and drizzle melted butter over the top. Return to oven and bake for 10 more minutes.
  5. As the buttered dough bakes, whisk together the milk eggs, sugar, maple syrup, maple extract, vanilla, and cinnamon in a medium sized bowl (a bowl with a pour spout is ideal!).
  6. Remove the baked dough from the oven and pour the maple mixture evenly over the top.
  7. Bake for an additional 30-35 minutes until golden.
  8. During the final bake time prepare the glaze by whisking together the melted butter, powdered sugar, and maple syrup.
  9. Allow crinkle to cool then drizzle glaze over the top.
