Water is a very powerful force. On one hand, it’s so important to us to sustain life. And on the other, it is not an element to be messed with.

Water has the ability to cause a lot of damage and destruction in its path. As much as we think of rivers or lakes or other bodies of water as being a calm and tranquil oasis, that’s far from the truth.

Yes, there can be a lot of peace behind bodies of water, but there can also be a lot of strength and volatility as well. Flash floods, for example, are such deadly and destructive forces of nature that just come out of nowhere.

Because of that, a pair of kids in Oman – aged 8 and 13 – nearly lost their lives when they were stuck in a dry river bed, also known as a wadi, that had become flooded with some very fast-moving waters. Luckily for these two children, help was on the way. One man heroically risked his own life and safety in order to jump into the waters to save the two kids from drowning.

Ali bin Nasser al Wardi was the one who pulled the two kids to safety from the wadi located in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.

Footage of the rescue shows the moment that Ali was in the water with the kids. It is clear that these currents were quite strong, as the man is clearly struggling against them as he fights to bring the kids back to the safety of the higher ground. Luckily, he was able to.

Ali detailed the rescue to the local news, saying, “The wadi was strong, but the rescue was necessary. I encountered the children in a panic state, and I took the risk to save them. I was in a state of fear, but it got over because the children were afraid. We used a rope with the help of my father and brother, which was tied around my waist. Thus I went down into the wadi and thank God we could save the children.”
