Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

With so many online debates raging at a given time, it is hard to decide which ones are worth chiming in on.

Respectfully, this particular debate is well worth your time, though. Riley Leach, 25, from Cloverdale, Indiana, happened to be checking out her “For You” page on TikTok recently when she made an amazing discovery.

She learned that she and her siblings had actually grown up in what is known as an #ingredienthousehold.

This is different from growing up in a #snackhousehold. Ingredient kids do not have ready-made, pre-packaged snacks to consume. Instead, they learn to address whatever cravings they are having by scrounging in the cabinets for ingredients that are purchased to make meals.

Cheese, apples, eggs and butter are prime examples. A #snackhousehold will have Cheez-Its, Doritos or Pop-Tarts on hand. Now, both sides are currently having a hilarious debate about the snacks that they once enjoyed.

Leach is responsible for fueling this debate, so if you are looking for someone to blame, she is right there. All jokes aside, this is a good-natured conversation and we have had a lot of fun watching it unfold.

Leach shared stories about her childhood snacking, as she was reduced to crafting the most basic nachos known to man.

She would also eat spoonfuls of peanut butter when she could not rustle up any snacks. She’s an aspiring blogger who was stunned when the video ended up going viral.

The comment section was jam-packed with people who wanted to share their childhood memories, letting Leach know that she was not alone. So, who is actually winning this debate? If you are going by the metrics of TikTok, it would appear that the #ingredienthousehold kids are on top at the moment. This hashtag is crushing the #snackhousehold tag and it is not even close.
