The live-action version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carrey is a holiday classic. We have to watch it every year, no matter what.
However, there is one intrepid TikTok user who has found an error in the film and they are sharing it with the rest of the world. @redcobweb is the one who noticed it initially and she is here to tell us more.
It’s a small blunder in the grand scheme of things. Still, she struggles to forget about it whenever she watches the movie. It is the type of thing that you will see and then you will not be able to un-see it. The Grinch is supposed to have green/yellow eyes that have black irises. There is a moment in the movie where Carrey’s brown eyes are visible.
“Bro, this always catches my eye so merry Christmas I’m sharing this,” the text on the video reads.
The clip in question shows the Grinch opening a hatch. Once the camera pans to the Grinch’s face, we see Carrey’s eyes instead. Once the camera cuts away and returns to Carrey, the green/yellow eyes that we are supposed to see have returned.
“Every time I watch the Grinch I notice this one little mistake they made whether they forgot to either put his contacts in or to edit them in afterward,” she shares in the video. It’s quite the continuity error and viewers have been voicing their opinions about this momentary lapse in the comments. “I’ve watched the Grinch so many times and never noticed this,” said one.
“Yes!! I always noticed this but never saw anyone else say something!! Thank you!!!” chimed in another. It’s a very bizarre moment and we are struggling to figure out how the makers of this film managed to miss it. You would think that this is something that would have been caught in the editing process.
Meanwhile, there are some who would like to believe that the mistake was intentional and done as a wink to the audience.
