Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

When a cyclone hit South Africa, this 71-year-old woman could have easily sat back and waited for others to help. No one would have thought less of her. After all, no one would be expecting someone of her age to run into the fray.

Now, her actions are receiving some much-needed praise and we are loving every minute of it. She deserves all the love that she is getting.

This is one of the most incredible acts of compassion that we have seen and it is finally being treated as such. One of the wealthiest Africans on the continent has decided to make sure that she will want for nothing for the rest of her life. Plaxedes Dilon, known as Gogo Magombo, has lived a very difficult life. On most days, she is up by 4 AM.

From there, she travels great distances to make a living selling clothes. In fact, she had just made her way home after one of these long days when she first heard the news about the cyclone on the radio. Speaking with ZimLive, she said: “I immediately packed the clothes and jackets that I earlier purchased for resell and carried my bag to Star FM the following morning.”

Telecoms tycoon Strive Masiyiwa, who is one of the ten richest people in Africa, has decided that he will be building a home for Dilon. In his words, she “gave more than us all.” We could not agree more with this assessment. While she was certainly not thinking about this when she did this good deed, it is always nice to see someone rewarded.

“This gogo had no 50c for combi, walked the whole way from Mbare to Highlands just to donate her pots to give to people in chimanimani,” the Highlands Presbyterian Church wrote in their post on Facebook, according to ZimLive. The Solutions Tower shared a photo of her delivering aid on Facebook and you can see the effort she put in to helping!

Meanwhile, Strive is going to be doing more than purchasing a mere home for the woman. “This is the biblical ‘widow’s mite’,” Masiyiwa wrote on Facebook, as per ZimLive. “What she did is one of the most remarkable acts of compassion I have ever seen. When this is over, I’m going to find her, and invite her to come and see me, if possible. Then I will spend time in prayer with her. Then I will build her a house, anywhere she wants in Zimbabwe. It will have solar power and running water. Then I will give her a monthly allowance of $1,000 for life.”
