There are certain stories that defy all logic but in the best possible way. Alexander McLeish was in the process of recovering from open-heart surgery when the most amazing thing happened.

His pal, Larry, decided to send him a “get well” card and the card contained three lottery tickets. For most of us, it would be nice just to win a $20 or something along those lines.

Alexander was far more fortunate than that, though. Once he scratched off the first three letters of the crossword puzzle lottery ticket, he was already starting to feel very lucky. His initials were immediately revealed: A, W and M. From there, he kept matching letters and words. The game he was playing is called $5,000,000 100X Cashword and it truly paid off for him.

Once he revealed the word “heart” on the puzzle’s bottom row, it became obvious what had happened. This man took home the top second prize: a cool million dollars. As you would have expected, Alexander was in a state of complete and total disbelief about what had taken place. His first instinct was to assume that it was not real at all and we can definitely relate to that.

“We double-checked it, triple-checked and quadruple-checked it because you want to make sure it’s real before you mention it to anybody,” said McLeish during a recent interview with the Boston Herald. “It was a little bit of disbelief at first, but then it settled in and it was like, ‘Wow, I can’t believe this happened, you know?’”

According to the good folks at the Massachusetts State Lottery, there are only ten total prize winners for this exact amount on these lottery tickets. What started as a $20 lottery ticket has become a true game-changer. This will definitely provide Alexander with the peace of mind that he deserves as he tries to make the best out of his recovery process.

You just never know when it comes to the lottery. Can you believe that his chances of taking home the million were just 1 in 1,008,000? The craziest part of all is that this is not the first time that Larry has purchased a winning lottery ticket as a gift for his pal.

On Alexander’s 60th birthday, he received a lottery ticket from Larry that turned out to be a $1,000 winner. As for this one, Alexander plans on giving some of the money to his friend and his adult sons.
