By now, you’ve probably seen quite a few gender reveal photos on social media, or even attended a gender reveal party. Heck, you might have even had a gender reveal party for your growing family! I’ve seen a few of these done well, but for the most part, these big events seem to be one fail after another.
In case you’ve somehow managed to escape the craziness that is gender reveal parties, the idea is that usually one or both of the parents don’t know the gender of their baby, and someone behind the scenes sets up a big reveal to be filmed and posted all over the internet for generations to look at and judge harshly.
Some popular gender reveal ideas include filling up a balloon with pink or blue powder and popping it, shooting confetti cannons with either pink or blue confetti, hitting a baseball filled with either pink or blue glitter… you get the idea. Throw in a few overbearing family members, siblings running around, a stressed-out mom-to-be, and you’re bound for a good time, right? Right?! Well, let’s take a look…
The One That Got Away…
Here is a classic balloon gender reveal party. The balloon is anchored to the ground, though not as securely as it should be, apparently. After some trouble trying to even hit the dang thing, the father-to-be almost hits his wife with the balloon! That’s nothing compared to when the balloon floats away and the proud father tries chasing after it and jumping the fence. You can see how well that turned out. Watch the full video here!
You Da Bomb
First, I just want to say how amazing this mother is. That look on her face says it all. She knows it didn’t work the way she envisioned it would, but she’s smiling through it, determined to get a good picture. And boy, what a picture she got! Do you see daddy-to-be in the blue powder cloud? Yeah, probably not the best idea to set off a powder bomb in your face!
Indestructable Water Balloons
To this family’s credit, they are on kid number seven. I applaud them for having the time and energy to want to do a gender reveal at all! Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a fun water balloon gender reveal with the whole family turned into a bunch of kids throwing sad balloons at a sheet. Oh well, I guess they can always find out the old fashioned way. Watch the video here!
Mixed Reactions
This one is too hilarious. Technically, the “reveal” with the frosting went off without a hitch. But those reactions are priceless! I’m sure it wasn’t the sweet family bonding moment mom and dad were hoping to capture, but I think it’s hilarious. I bet that little girl ends up being her little brother’s best friend. One day. Probably.
Pizza Fail
I’ve seen this one floating around the internet, so I thought it deserved a place here on this list. Apparently, this was a gender reveal for the grandparents. The plan was to order pizza from Domino’s. When you place your order online, there’s an option for “special preparation instructions.” The mom and dad to be requested that the pepperoni spell out, “It’s A Boy.” Not only are the pepperonis too spread out to form letters, but the pizza artist took some creative liberties with “boy,” in the form of a sausage pizza. I mean, I think it’s hilarious, but I’m not sure if the grandparents did!
Surprise!
Here’s another classic that’s been floating around the internet for some time now. I’m going to go ahead and say it – I don’t think anyone should be holding a flare right next to a table full of food, with a plastic tablecloth and balloons in the background. Luckily, this fail wasn’t fatal, just hilarious. Instead of pink or blue smoke, the couple got black smoke. And their friend’s face cracks me up every time!
Well, if I wasn’t sure before, I’m definitely sure now. I don’t like gender reveal parties. Being a parent is hard enough, why make it more difficult?
