5. Rusty Skillet? Grab A Potato

Unlike a lot of things, cast iron skillets get better with age. But they can rust. If yours has gone a little red, never fear. There’s an easy way to fix it so you can ensure your skillet will be passed down for generations. First, cut a potato in half. (Yes, you read that right.) Then, sprinkle the skillet liberally with salt. Using the cut side of the potato, rub the salt into the skillet, scrubbing the sides, bottom, and edges of the pan. The potato keeps the salt just moist enough to get off all that rust. Once clean, place the skillet over low heat to remove any moisture and grease the skillet liberally with oil. Use a clean paper towel to remove any extra oil and keep the pan on low heat for a half an hour and you’ll have a clean, nonstick cast iron pan again!
