Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

We can still remember how we felt when we first went off to college. It was such an exciting time. While the process is definitely arduous, it feels good to take that first step forward and start taking on more adult responsibilities. And who doesn’t love having all of the extra freedoms that come with your very own dorm room?

The cinder block walls and linoleum tiling will start to feel like home after a while, though they are not exactly the most elegant living arrangement. Once you have crammed everything from your childhood bedroom in there (and left some room for your roommate to do the same), it’s often a bit crammed and unwelcoming. Let’s be real, the space can be pretty drab, even after you have taken the time to hang up some cool posters.

But, that wasn’t the case for two Texas Southern University freshman, Skylar Bantz and Adeline Vela. While they just met this past year, their sensibilities definitely align from a decor standpoint.

Best of all, the girls only needed to spend $500 apiece to make their room look special. Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, IKEA, and Amazon provided them with all of the tools that they needed. The roommates lucked out because their parents were willing to help out with the bill!

It took seven people and 20 hours of work but the dorm now looks like a whole new place! If you would like to find out more about how these girls transformed their room, please be sure to check out the video below. It has to be seen to be believed.
