This woman’s seemingly harmless decision has had some very real consequences and now she is looking to help others to avoid the same fate.
Apparently, if you put hard-boiled eggs in the microwave, all sorts of awfulness can and will ensue. This is something that we would have been scared to try anyway. It is wild to see your fears confirmed like this.
We are glad that she is sharing, though. This is the sort of mistake that we could see lots of well-meaning people making.
“This is a PSA to never microwave your hard-boiled eggs,” @cristinamilicua shared on her TikTok page. When the video begins, it is clear to see that things did not go as planned. For starters, she is totally covered in eggs, which was probably not her objective.
From there, we see the eggs in question. One of them is in crumbles. Meanwhile, the other egg was not in the best of shape either. It popped right in front of her face, which had to be startling, to say the least.
According to the LA Times, this is actually a phenomenon that has baffled scientists. The eggs are able to be hard-boiled in the microwave but the issue takes place when they are being reheated.
Evidently, there are tiny pockets of “superheated water” which “spontaneously boil” inside the microwaved eggs. Once they are opened, an explosion can occur. There is not much that can be done to stop it, in case anyone is curious. Cristina made a follow-up video, explaining that she actually hard boils the eggs in bulk so that she has them for her work week.
This makes all of the sense in the world. Unfortunately, the microwave seems to have other ideas. She had good luck up until this video, as the eggs were able to be warmed up with ease until this awful explosion took place.
“I had been warming them up all week, and had no problem at all, until Friday, when they blew up on me,” she said.
