Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

This Disney Cruise Line customer is here to provide a valuable critique and you won’t believe what has drawn their ire. They are not a fan of the company’s tipping requirements, as they believe them to be “weird” in nature.

@garybembridge is a TikTok user who spent time aboard the ship and he is here to speak out about the experience. When he showed his receipt, we understood where he was coming from.

There were a number of gratuities that had been added to the bill automatically. He was not a fan of Disney asking him for even more money.

“They give you this piece of paper that gives you the name of everyone that’s dealt with you,” he explains to the audience. “Your cabin steward, your waiter… and then splits by each of them what percentage of the gratuity they’ve auto-charged.”

Additionally, there were envelopes that were being provided to patrons, so that they could provide more tips to the staff.

Disney will automatically add these gratuities and they are dispersed among the four crew members who are responsible for serving guests each day. If you are on the ship, you are expected to spend $14.50 to $15.50 per night (per guest), depending on where you are staying.

The company also states that “18% gratuity is automatically added to bar, beverage, wine, deck service tabs and spa services.” There are other services where gratuity is not added automatically “which are either included in the charge or based on your discretion.” Guests can head to Guest Services when they are on board if they wish to adjust these prices.

“I think it’s obvious that they need to pay their employees more. They make more than enough money to make sure all employees make above a living wage,” said one viewer. We could not agree more. Disney should not need anyone else to foot the bill for their employees.

“We always cancel our gratuities and tip each of the staff individually in cash to make sure it definitely goes to them/their pocket! So hardworking!” said one commentator. That’s a very good idea!

Where do you stand on this one? If you are anything like us, you are tired of being the one who has to provide employee wages for these mega corporations. It is high time that these massive companies stopped behaving in such a ridiculous manner.
