You’ll start out by rolling out the puff pastry so it’s just a little thinner and provides a large surface area for all the goodies. Bake the bottom sheet until it is puffed and golden (without this step the bottom will end up doughy). Let the base cool slightly, then start the layering! A layer of cheese starts things off, then the meat, followed by a simple homemade sauce. Sprinkle on the red peppers, arugula, and red onion, then place the second sheet of puff pastry on top.

Use a fork to crimp the edges together, then pop the sheet pan in the oven for another 20 minutes, or until the top is a beautiful golden brown. Cut your masterpiece into slices, big or small, and dig in! I think these Deli Squares are best when they’re hot (melty cheese!), but they’re still delicious at room temperature. Be the hostess with the mostest and give this recipe a try!

Ingredients
  • 1 (17 oz) box frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 12 slices mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 6-8 slices deli ham
  • 6-8 slices deli turkey
  • ⅓ cup mayo
  • 1 tablespoon spicy brown mustard
  • 1 cup roasted red peppers, drained
  • ⅓ cup sliced red onion
  • 1 cup arugula
  • 1 egg, beaten
Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll thawed puff pastry and use a rolling pin to roll the dough out so it is slightly thinner and larger in size.
  3. Place one sheet of dough on the prepared baking sheet and use a sharp knife to score a border 1 inch from the edge of the sheet on all sides.
  4. Bake sheet for 10-12 minutes or until puffed and golden.
  5. As pastry bakes, mix together mayo and mustard in a small bowl. Set aside.
  6. After initial bake, allow pastry to cool slightly, then press down the middle to flatten it.
  7. Layer the fillings: start with 6 slices mozzarella, then the meats. Spoon mayo mixture over the meat and spread all over. Sprinkle on red peppers, red onion, and arugula.
  8. Place second sheet of pastry dough on top and use a fork to crimp the edges together.
  9. Brush top of dough with the beaten eggs.
  10. Bake for 20-25 or until top is golden brown.
  11. Serve warm or chilled.
