Recently, “Coming 2 America” made its premiere on Amazon Prime. The long-awaited sequel to the 1988 movie, “Coming To America” stars Eddie Murphy in a reprisal of his iconic role.
Perhaps the one thing that many viewers probably noticed, was the very stunning Zamunda Palace. While most would assume it’s a decked-out movie set, it’s actually a real home. In fact, it just happens to be Rick Ross’s personal mansion!
Jefferson Sage was the production manager who was in charge of searching for locations where the movie could be shot, and it just so happened that the rapper’s home served as the perfect set for the movie.
The estate is located in Fayetteville, Georgia where it sits on a property that spans about 235 acres. While the location is currently owned by Rick Ross, it previously belonged to the boxer, Evander Holyfield. In the center of the property is the 12-bedroom mansion which measures about 45,000 square feet in total. Ross has showed a few sneap peaks at his house on Instagram.
In order to get the movie made, the movie crew took over five areas of the home in order to create the world of Zamunda. These locations within the home are the foyer with a double-winding staircase, as well as two large rooms that have 18-foot ceilings and large windows, and a dining room that comfortably fits 100 guests. The main bedroom in the movie is also Ross’s actual bedroom in real life!
While the outside of the mansion is an incredible sight on its own, for the movie, the production team used a bit of help from CGI effects to make it even more palatial-looking. According to Variety, Ross shared that he was thoroughly thrilled to be able to offer up his home for the making of the sequel. He admitted that “Coming To America” is one of his favorite movies, so he was more than happy to see his home be a part of the latest film. Plus, he also got to experience a few delights of having his home be used by a movie production team.
Ross said to Variety, “They changed the wallpaper in the dining room so I asked them to keep it up there. They also created that huge dining room table for a dining scene that seats 50-60 people, and they left that for me as a gift. It’s humungous.”
“Coming 2 America” did quite well during its opening weekend as it aired on several streaming services, including Amazon.
