Chef Bans High-Paying Customers For Being Rude To Their Server

People who’ve never worked in the service industry have no idea how tough of a job it can actually be. There are long hours, and a lot of time spent on your feet, and those are just experiences without throwing in a rude customer or two.

Unfortunately, people in the service industry often have to face rude customers that will belittle them or act entitled toward them. It is absolutely horrible behavior and should be called out more often.

After a group of diners behaved badly towards a staff member, the restaurant’s chef called them out and banned them. Lee Skeet is a chef working at the restaurant Cora, in Cardiff in the UK. Recently, he had a group of diners come in and spend $1,200 on dinner – the highest bill total that his restaurant has seen.

However, they left a rather sour taste in his mouth after it came to light how they proceeded to treat his staff throughout the evening. Skeet explained in a email to the group that no amount of money would give them a free pass with their abhorrent behavior.

The screenshot of Skeet’s email, which he shared on Twitter, stated, โ€œDear [redacted], I wanted to firstly thank you for choosing my restaurant for your meal tonight, and I understand you had the biggest bill we’ve ever had on one table here,โ€ he wrote. โ€œUnfortunately throughout the evening, I was made aware that your party’s behavior was inappropriate towards Lily, who runs front-of-house. She has told me that as a 22-year-old-girl she was talked down to, disrespected, and touched unwantedly by members of your group.โ€

Skeet continued, saying, โ€œI have spent the last hour having conversations with her that break my heart, make me feel like a sh*t employer, and a terrible dad, having my own daughter.โ€

Skeet followed up, offering a refund of their bill, minus $100, as he explained that money should’ve gone to their server, Lily. If their behavior wasn’t already appalling enough, it turned out that the group of diners didn’t leave a tip!

Skeet then concluded the email, stating, โ€œI would thank you to never come back to my restaurant. Lily means a lot more to me than money. I also think you should assess the people you surround yourself with.โ€

Skeet was livid with the group and composed the email shortly after they left. However, in the end, he didn’t refund them their money. Instead, he gave the entire check to Lily – a move that many people on Twitter applauded.
