Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

If you’re like me, you’ve probably developed a little bit of an addiction to watching different recipe videos on TikTok. One of the latest trends making the rounds on social media is the chaffle.

If you also happen to be into another current trend, the keto diet, then you’ll be happy to know that these waffles are actually quite keto-friendly as they’re made of only two main ingredients: cheese and eggs.

The breakfast food is low in carbs and quite easy to make, so you can enjoy them pretty much any day of the week while eating the fad keto diet. Apparently, the cheesy waffle creations are the reason that Ree Drummond, also known as the Pioneer Woman, gave in and bought a mini waffle iron.

Perhaps the best part of the chaffle is its potential to be anything you want it to be in terms of a breakfast food. You can take it in a savory direction or a sweet one. You can pile on all the toppings possible, or you can keep it simple. Basically, the possibilities are endless.

They’re easy to make as well. The mixture consists of just cheese and eggs and you can add in all your favorite flavorings, such as a pinch of cinnamon and vanilla if you want a more traditional waffle vibe. Or, you can sprinkle in some everything bagel seasoning for a little more savory taste.

But perhaps the most popular way to prepare a chaffle is to turn it savory, such as the very popular bacon cheddar chive chaffles. They’re essentially prepared the same way that a regular one would be made.

For the bacon chive chaffles the ingredients list is below:

2 eggs
1 cup shredded cheddar jack cheese
2 slices cooked bacon, finely chopped
1 tbsp finely chopped chives

Of course, some shredded cheese, chopped bacon, and some chives for sprinkling on top when it’s served.

To make, you just have to follow the instructions below:

Preheat a mini waffle iron
Whisk eggs and ingredients together in a bowl
Scoop batter into the waffle iron and cook until the automatic light turns green
Once removed, let them cook before serving.

The cooked chaffles can be stored at room temperature or in the fridge for up to 3 days. Check out some other TikTok variations below for more inspiration:
