Of all the sweet and savory combos out there, Chocolate and peanut butter just might be the most delicious one. Growing up in the midwest, there was no more famous a treat with this pairing than the little buckeye sweets.

If you aren’t familiar, buckeyes are a treat made from a ball of fudgy peanut butter mixture that’s partially dipped in chocolate, leaving a small circle of peanut butter showing on top. They look just like the nuts from buckeye trees (the Ohio State mascot), hence the name. No holiday party or get together would be complete without them! And while we absolutely love the original buckeyes, this quick and easy dip certainly captures those beloved flavors without all the work!

This no-bake recipe starts out with a full two blocks of tangy cream cheese. Mix in powdered sugar to sweeten things up and a splash of vanilla for extra flavor. Next up, we add a generous cup and a half of creamy peanut butter for the signature ruch and nutty taste. Gently fold in a tub of whipped topping until just combined to keep that light texture.

A scoop of mini chocolate chips finish off the base, then it’s onto the magic shell topping for a glossy pour of chocolate over the top. Just a quick chill in the fridge and that shell sets into a crackly topping that’s as satisfying to break through as it is to eat. We love serving this dip with salty pretzels, crisp apple slices, or Nilla wafers, but you really can’t go wrong. If you’re looking for a sweet treat that’s simple and nostalgic, this Buckeye Dip has your name written all over it.

Ingredients
  • 2 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 ½ cups creamy peanut butter
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 (8 oz) tub whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1 (7 oz) bottle magic shell
Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, add both blocks of softened cream cheese and powdered sugar. Mix until light and well combined.
  2. Add in peanut butter and vanilla and mix until smooth.
  3. Fold in whipped topping and chocolate chips until just combined. Over mixing will deflate the whipped topping.
  4. Transfer dip to a pie dish or 8x8-inch baking dish and spread to edges to create a flat surface.
  5. Pour magic shell over the top and use the back of a spoon to gently cover the top of the dip in a thin layer.
  6. Refrigerate dip for 30-40 minutes before serving to allow chocolate to set.
  7. Serve chilled with pretzels, nilla wafers, or sliced fruit.
