Sometimes a dog can do everything right, but his or her owner will still resent them. That seems to be the case with Batur, a sweet dog who was left to die on a chain outside.
Liza, a dog rescuer, happened to be at the vet when she heard Batur’s owner speaking of how his dog had rabies and had bitten him. He said he tied the dog to a chain and left it to starve.
According to Animal Shelters, Liza couldn’t help but speak up and ask the man more about his dog with rabies. She wanted to see the dog for herself, so the owner led her to the spot where the dog was chained.
The poor dog, Batur, didn’t seem to be exhibiting symptoms of anything other than hunger and loneliness. With permission, Liza claimed the dogs as her own and tried to get him to leave with her to go to the vet and confirm the disease, but the dog just wanted to go with his owner – a person who didn’t care to even glance at the dog or say goodbye.
Eventually, they were able to get Batur to the vet and it was confirmed that he did not, in fact, have rabies. He was, however, suffering from a fungal ear infection and dehydration.
It took some time for Batur to recover from being chained and starved, but each day he seemed to improve. He started out so sickly and sad but eventually transformed into an enthusiastic dog who was ready to take on the world.
No one is sure why Batur’s owner claimed he had rabies, or why Batur had bitten him in the first place. But Liza is determined to give the dog the best life possible and show him what love and family really look like.
