Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

There are a lot of movies that we are looking forward to seeing, especially now that we are in the midst of a return to (semi) normalcy.

We have missed going to the movies greatly and as such, we have been devouring trailers on a constant basis. Few upcoming films have us more curious than the upcoming Warner Brothers’ take on the life and times of the one and only Barbie!

Greta Gerwig is at the helm of this story, which focuses on the world’s most famous figurine. Of course, they had to get Margot Robbie to play the lead role because who else could fill those pink stilettos? While there are some who may be skeptical about this film, we love the plot twist that they have managed to come up with here.

We are not going to be spending time with her in the Barbie Dream House. In fact, this plot is more centered around Barbie’s exile from the world of Barbieland. From there, she is forced to learn how to live in the real world with the rest of us. Now, the film finally has a release date. It is expected to make its way into theaters on July 21, 2023.

If you have been eagerly awaiting your chance to enjoy this first look, you are in luck. Initially, the role of Barbie was going to be played by comedic actress Amy Schumer. This change is a rather welcome one, as we look forward to seeing Robbie’s more nuanced take on the role. Ryan Gosling, who is no stranger to critical acclaim himself, will be playing the role of Ken.

The attachment of all these A-listers has us more excited for this movie than we may have been otherwise. The trailer is still to come but the first look photo certainly has us pumped.

“People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t…’” said Robbie in a recent Vogue interview.

In addition to Gerwig, Robbie and Gosling, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Alexandra Shipp, Will Ferrell, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, and Ariana Greenblatt will be participating in the project. Next July cannot come soon enough!
