“All the Queens Houses” is a noteworthy photo series that captures all of the diversity that Queens, New York has to offer.

Architect Rafael Herrin-Ferri is responsible for the photos and we cannot get enough of them. You don’t have to be a New York City resident to appreciate these pictures, either. They are sure to attract all kinds of positive attention, as they allow us to view this historic borough in a whole new light.

There are so many different housing styles available to Queens residents. We legitimately had no idea until we had the chance to check it out for ourselves.

We understand that these homes might be off putting to some. The color schemes and styles are a bit more eccentric than what some of are used to. No matter, though! For some of us, these homes are going to serve as valuable inspiration for those who are looking to make changes to their own residences in the future.

The description from Herrin-Ferri’s website says it all. His love for these homes (and the city of New York itself) shines through here. He said:

“This includes row-housing, semi-detached two-family houses, detached single-family houses of the early twentieth century, and more contemporary three to five-story apartment buildings on small lots. It is an attempt to reflect the incredible diversity of the borough’s population in its built environment.

When so many people from so many cultures with so many different aesthetic preferences co-exist in a tight urban fabric it seems only natural that the streetscape should look like this. For me, these houses represent an ‘urbanism of tolerance.'”

We love to see varied neighborhoods like this, for a variety of reasons. First of all, it is nice to see splashes of color in the mix. Few things are more fun than checking out other houses, in hopes of finding cool design motifs to incorporate or pass along.
