The world has become fixated on unusual places to spend a vacation. Just taking a look at some of the unique Airbnb vacation rentals will show you that almost anything can be converted into a makeshift place to put up your feet.

There is something new, however, and it is only found in Sweden. It seems as if somebody took a commercial airplane and converted it into a hotel.

That’s right, you can stay at this hotel for rates as low as $45 per night.

The Boeing 747-200 jetliner was decommissioned and the hotel was born near the Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

Originally, Singapore Airlines was using the airplane to fly people here and there since 1976. Eventually, the model became obsolete for flight so it was retired in 2002.

These days, it is known as Jumbo Stay. It all started with a permit obtained in 2007 from the municipality of Sigtuna. They wanted to turn the decommissioned jetliner into a hotel, and some work needed to be done before that could happen. They had to repair the interior and remove 450 flight seats.

When all was said and done, the old jetliner became a 33 room hotel. Because of its location, you can stay in the old jetliner and look out over the runway or you may have views of the engines.

Jumbo Stay opened in 2009 after it was turned into a hotel and put on a concrete foundation. At full capacity, 76 people can fit in the hotel in rooms that have anywhere from one up to 4 beds.

If you really want to try something interesting, then the cockpit suite with two beds is perhaps the perfect place to stay.

As the name would suggest, it is located in what was the cockpit of the plane and it has a television, two beds, and its own bathroom.
