Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

Perhaps you are familiar with the term “let the buyer beware.” I’m sure that we have all been stung in some way or another with something that we purchased and we didn’t quite get what we expected.

We are fortunate if it is something small, such as a shirt or maybe a pair of shoes. It is quite a different story, however, when you book a room on Airbnb and it is not what you expected.

That is what happened to a traveler named Desiree Baker who experienced something when she was traveling to New York City. The room, which she booked on Airbnb said it had a beautiful view of the city but when she got there, she didn’t quite enjoy the view.

She said: “I’m in New York City right now, in my Airbnb.”

Afterward, she showed some pictures of what it looked like when you saw the listing online. It was a beautiful room with two large beds, a flatscreen television and you could see the entire city from the window. When she got there, however, she realized that it was not exactly as advertised.

She said: “We are in a restaurant. Let me show you.”

Baker then turned off the lights because she didn’t want to frighten the people who would be looking from the other direction. After she put up the shade of her window, you can see that there were two people sitting directly in front of her eating their dinner. That’s right, her room was in the middle of a restaurant.

She then goes on to caption the video and ask how it could even be legal. I guess she is right when you say that you can’t really make these things up.

HOW IS THIS LEGAL you literally can not make this up. I can open the window and touch their table

The restaurant was in Times Square and she was staying at the hotel Cassa which is nearby. As you can imagine, she complained about the room but she didn’t get a refund. Airbnb sent her credit for a future stay somewhere else.
