4. Try some essential oils.

Certain essential oils, like lavender, are widely recognized in the aromatherapy world for their relaxing properties. Having this scent nearby may help your body to fall asleep faster. You might put a drop or two on your sleep mask, or keep a diffuser by your bed to help deliver that restful scent to you as you sleep.

5. Cool down a bit.

We tend to sleep better in rooms that are cooler, so open a window or have a fan nearby to help regulate your core temperature while you sleep. If a window or fan isn’t an option, try fewer blankets or lighter sleepwear.

One helpful trick is to wear socks to bed. Warming our extremities will take heat away from our core and allow our bodies to cool down naturally.

6. Use your senses.

Try visualization. Close your eyes and imagine a peaceful scene. But don’t just see it; smell, touch, and hear it too. This is a great way to trick your mind away from distracting thoughts and instead focus on something that is relaxing.
