Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

From the time that many of us were young, we took off our sneakers by stepping on the back of them and forcing them off of our heels. We were told repeatedly by our parents that untying our shoes is important, but it seems as if those days are now history.

After all, Nike has announced the “Nike Go FlyEase,” which is a hands-free option that has a bi-stable hinge so you can slip your foot out without ever touching the shoe.

It only takes a simple push of the kickstand heel to slip your foot out and leave the shoe standing in position. Thanks to a tension band that is included in the sneaker, the movement is “supercharged” so the shoe is held in position, either on or off. When the shoe is upright, the inner sole is at a 30° angle. In other words, you can slip your foot into it while standing without any problem. When the shoe is collapsed, it will fit on your feet snugly as if it were tied tightly.

Many people are able to take advantage of the Nike GO FlyEase but it is especially beneficial for people who are busy and for athletes. For example, Bebe Vio is a champion fencer who says that they typically spend a lot of time putting on their shoes. She shared with Nike: “With the Nike GO FlyEase, I just need to put my feet in and jump on it. The shoes are a new kind of technology, not only for adaptive athletes but for everyone’s real life.”

I’m sure that many of you are anxious to place your order, but the shoes are not yet available to the general public. On February 15, it is expected to be offered to select Nike members who are invited, but later in 2021, we anticipate a wider distribution.
