Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

We love to see this type of ingenuity on display, especially as far as clothing is concerned. There are moments in life when we cannot afford to splurge in the manner that we want.

During these times, we are forced to improvise. There is an old saying about one person’s trash becoming another person’s treasure and this teen is living out that axiom.

Megan Johnson is a 17-year-old who needed a dress for prom and decided to take a unique step toward that goal. Instead of worrying about purchasing an expensive dress, she took an old wedding dress and got to work. Best of all, she shared the results of her experimentation on TikTok on her account, @therealmeganjohnson.

“This is me dying a wedding dress I thrifted to wear to prom!” she wrote in the text overlay. To get started, Megan tailors the dress so that it will fit her perfectly. The dress is also embellished with a number of features, including pearls. From there, it is time for the true transformation, as she prepares to dye the dress.

This step of the process is handled in the bathtub. The tub is filled up with hot water before she adds a bottle of pink liquid. Then, she takes a mop and stirs the solution around. These are simply the instructions and she is doing her best to follow them. “This is me taking one more look before I sealed my fate,” she says as the dress is placed inside of the container.

“I stirred it for 30 minutes, I didn’t want it too dark but I think it turned out pretty cute,” she shared. “Should I try it on tomorrow?” she asked her followers. Of course, everyone loved the results and the older viewers got to enjoy a bit of well-earned nostalgia.

The video brought back memories for some of the older women, as they had bought this exact dress for their weddings way back when. Eventually, Megan posted a 32-second clip in the dress and everyone was thrilled with the final result. It is a dress fit for a princess.

“Now add a flower, crown necklace and gloves to go with it,” one viewer shared, encouraging her to lean all the way into the princess aspect.
