The coffee plants that Trader Joe’s has to offer can be had for just $7.99! traderjoes.recipes and trader.joes.spokane are the Instagram accounts that have decided to share the news. If you are anything like us, your caffeine addiction already has you ready to head to the store. Not so fast, though. Here’s a little bit of background information for you to go on before taking one of these home.

These plants are native to Ethiopia. Their leaves are sure to catch your eye, as they are vibrant and colorful. The coffee plants that Trader Joe’s sells are also characterized by their ability to produce berries and small white flowers. Once the berries and flowers have been picked, they are broken down to produce the coffee that we know and love.

Okay, so this is where a lot of you are going to be let down. If you had dreams of purchasing your own coffee plants and producing your own coffee, we have bad news for you. The coffee plants that are available at Trader Joe’s are not going to produce any berries, in most instances. When these plants are removed from their natural habitat, their ability to produce coffee is compromised.

Now for the good part! These plants are very easy for any homeowner to take care of. You do not need to be an experienced green thumb to handle a project like this one. They make for a wonderful indoor house plant and they’re easy to care for. For best results, the coffee plants should be placed in rooms that offer plenty of indirect, natural sunlight. If the sunlight is too harsh, the plant’s leaves will dry up.

Coffee plants also require a certain amount of water. Don’t overdo it and keep the soil waterlogged. They only need some water every week or every other week. One last note: the plants are toxic to various animals, including birds, cats, horses, dogs. Those who have house pets will not want to bring one of these home. As for everyone else? It’s time to head to Trader Joe’s!
