When you are an artist, you often perfect what you do in every possible way. That is also true of the art known as foley. It is an art form that re-creates sound effects that are commonly heard in television shows, movies, and other forms of media. Typically, something you wouldn’t think of is used to create those sound effects, even though they sound realistic.
As an example, a foley artist may re-create the sound of thunder by using metal sheets. Although you could probably use the sounds of a real thunderstorm, it is much easier to use an alternate source. Charlie S. Cooke is a TikTok user that shares many videos in which he re-creates sound effects using everyday objects.
Some people may not consider this a true art form, but it really takes a lot of skill to do it. After all, you need to think about the natural sound and then wonder how you will recreate it.

Jack Foley is the namesake for this type of artform. He was one of the first to reinvent sound effects in this way. In many cases, foley sound effects will give an even better experience than what you would have if it weren’t for those sounds. Through foley, filmmakers are able to time movie scenes just right and make sure that the flavor of what they are doing is not lost.
