Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

The beloved Crocodile Hunter left behind a legacy, a family, and a wildlife hospital. Thankfully, his work in wildlife conservation and education is being continued by his family, Terri, Robert, and Bindi.

The Irwins own the Australia Zoo and its Wildlife Hospital. The hospital is a valuable resource to the community and helps thousands of animals each year.

Since it opened in 2004, the hospital saw an average of 9,000-10,000 animals per year.

However, when the bushfires ravaged the country in 2019-2020, an estimated three billion animals were harmed, according to the World Wildlife Fund. The increase of wild animals in need pushed the hospital to capacity and they started fundraising for an expansion.

According to Discovery, the hospital had helped over 100,000 animals by the end of 2021.

Bindi wrote on Instagram, “My parents’ dedication to making the world a better place has inspired me since I can remember. We have dedicated our lives to standing up for the planet. It’s up to all of us to make a difference for the generations to come. The future is in our hands.”

The facility continues to provide life-saving care for wildlife, including animals injured in the bushfires. The work that Steve Irwin started continues to provide for animals and the world of conservation, even decades later.
