A carb-loaded meaty soup all cooked in under half an hour? Sounds too good to be true, but it can and will be a reality in your life. This recipe takes frozen dumplings (the starter or appetizer of a meal) alongside ho-hum noodles and transforms them into a soul-satisfying dish.

Leeks, chives (or green onion), garlic, chili peppers, and ground beef makes for a familiar cast of characters, making cooking this dish void of stress.

After prepping your ingredients, you saute the leeks with the ground beef. Cooked with a bit of sugar and soy sauce drives home a whole new level of richness. Once cooked through, remove half of the beef, as you’ll be topping the soup with this portion of leeks and beef.

Next, you create the stock. After adding water, you stir in some beef bouillon and fish sauce. If you want, you can use beef stock instead.

Bring to a boil, and then add the dumplings, cooking them until they are completely cooked through. Aaron cooks the noodles separately in a pot of water and strains them. This prevents the noodles and the cooking water from diluting the flavor of the stock.

To serve, Aaron puts the cooking noodles in first followed by ladles of the stock. Garnish the soup with dumplings, chives, chili peppers, and remaining ground beef for an elegant presentation.

Though the noodles and dumplings are store-bought, the complexities of the beef and fresh vegetables make the soup that crave-able, homemade taste.
