Making Mealtime Meaningful: See How We’re Giving Back with the New 12 Tomatoes Cares Program →

Our parents sacrifice so much for us, so it’s always a nice feeling when you’re able to give something back to them. For most of us, it’s small gestures of care that we provide them with. But every once in a while some of us are able to do something major for them.

Jamie Nyland is a 24-year-old TikToker from Gloucestershire in the UK. He has more than 2.3 million followers on his social media – and all of them were able to watch the emotional moment when Nyland surprised his father with major news: He paid off the entirety of his father’s mortgage.

This meant that Nyland’s father, Richard, would be able to retire early. In a TikTok video, Nyland walks into his father’s room and hands him the house key before telling him the good news, saying, “I’ve just paid off your mortgage. I’ve just rung the bank and paid off every single penny left on your mortgage.”

His father was astounded and couldn’t believe it when his son was assuring him that he owned the “whole house.” The sweet moment was further offset by the fact that Nyland told his father that he’s been working his entire life and deserved to be able to retire. Touched by his son’s actions, the man began to cry and told his son that he will be inheriting the home and will be “set up for life.”

The tender moment between father and son then came to a conclusion as the two of them shared how much they loved one another and fell into an embrace. After the video, Nyland explained that he’d been doing YouTube and Vine videos for ten years – all with the hopes of one day being able to pay off his father’s mortgage.
