If you are the type of person who likes to shop at Sephora and use their makeup brushes, this is a story that you are going to want to see. It’s a disturbing one, for sure. That does not make it any less important, though.

Those who subscribe to the concept of “try before you buy” are going to want to read on. The in-store samples that are provided at Sephora carry certain hidden dangers.

@howdirtyis is the TikTok user who has decided to reveal their findings to us.

All of the publicly available items were swapped for the purposes of their clip, including lipsticks, blushes, eye shadows, multi-sticks, and mascara. They wanted to know if there was any bacteria that could be found on these items and it did not take long before their suspicions were confirmed.

The samples were all swabbed and given the necessary incubation period. The blushes, eye shadow, and multi sticks were the items that had the most bacteria. On the other hand, the concealer, lipstick and mascara samples all came back clean. Microbes will often live on items like these and it is important to pay close attention to these types of concerns.

In most instances, it is always better to be proactive than reactive. If we are exposed to too many microbes, we are placing ourselves in serious danger. They can lead to viruses that cause all sorts of health issues. Respiratory illness, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, and staph infections can all be caused by exposure to harmful microbes.

Even doctors concur and are warning potential patients from trying out makeup brushes. According to TODAY, NYC Dermatologist Dr. Debra Jaliman said: “You can get infectious diseases from using testers in makeup stores. I don’t ever recommend it.”

That’s not all that the good doctor had to say on the matter. “You never know which makeup products can become contaminated with germs (or) bacteria as we all harbor bacteria on our skin,” she continued.

The viewers at home watched the video that was shared and came to the same conclusion. “Its dirty becuz everyone uses their fingers for those or they test directly to their skin,” said one viewer. “As someone who used to work at Sephora we did clean and replace lipsticks, eyeliner and mascara more frequently [than] powder products lol,” the former employee revealed.
