From game day dips to garnishing the tops of hamburgers, salads, and even soups, avocados have nestled their way into our kitchens becoming that oddly savory and a hundred percent satisfying fruit (yes it’s a fruit). Despite avocado’s various appearances in our recipes, it’s safe to say that prepping an avocado is more frustrating than we want to admit. It’d either rock hard or complete mush and removing the pit becomes a disaster-fest, that is until now.

While we all know the classic stab avocado pit with a knife technique, sushichefcho on TikTok says otherwise and that the standard way of removing the pit results in lost phalanges more than extracted avocado pits.

The trick, he says, is to make sure that the avocado is properly ripe and not too hard. Eating unripe avocados isn’t just unpleasant, but trying to remove a pit from an unripe avocado makes it nearly impossible in a clean way.

Instead, he says to press the backside of the avocado, which will pop the pit out of the avocado. The action, when done on a ripe avocado, will remove the pit cleanly.

This method extracts the pit without damaging the flesh of the avocado, making for a pristine picture-perfect avocado. You can watch the full video hack by clicking the link here.
