Every time I fly, I am amazed by the landing. I find it so cool that pilots can navigate a landing without completely crashing into the ground, and I’ve been on some planes where the pilots manage so smooth of a landing that you can barely feel when the plane touches down.

But the thing about commercial jets is they’ve got a pretty decent strip of land to touch down on and come to a full stop. Now imagine having to land a bullseye on a tiny little helipad on the top of a building – that would be considerably much more tricky.

However, one Polish pilot, Lukasz Czepiela, managed to pull off an incredible bullseye landing when he got his small airplane to land on the top of the 56-story Burj Al Arab Jumeirah hotel in Dubai on a very small helipad.

As explained by Red Bull, “Pilot Luke Czepiela lands an aeroplane on the world famous helipad on top of the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, the iconic seven-star hotel in Dubai.”

While the landing was a very phenomenal accomplishment, practice proved perfect. Czepiela has practiced this move more than 650 times, given that the helipad is only 31 yards in diameter and he needed about 23 yards to stop. However, thanks to the engineering of his aircraft, he was able to land it as it was quite light, but still powerful enough to take off again.

As explained on YouTube, “To make the feat possible he and a team of CubCrafters engineers along with renowned American aviation engineer and aircraft builder Mike Patey made a number of modifications to the aircraft, reducing the total weight to only 425 kilograms, moving the main fuel tank to the rear of the plane to allow for more aggressive braking and adding nitrous to enhance power for Czepiela’s secondary challenge – taking off from the helipad.”

Needless to say, the pilot was quite pleased with himself and his accomplishment.

In fact, he stated, “The landing was the first time I performed this manoeuvre in real life…I imagined it, trained on a simulator, but never used it in real life before.”
