Sometimes, when we are on a flight, we get the chance to switch our seats. If there are empty spots that can be sat in, why wouldn’t we?

However, this flight attendant is here to warn us away from such practices. Serenity Haley, who works for American Airlines, is here to tell us more about flight life and the cabin crew that she works with.

With over 10,000 followers, she knows that she has a major platform and she uses it responsibly. That’s why she is here to tell us about the dangers of switching seats without letting the cabin crew know about it first. “Here’s a quick little fun fact about planes and why you shouldn’t change your seat without asking a flight attendant,” she begins.

“Before takeoff, we always do what’s called a weight and balance just to make sure the weight is good on the plane and the balance is okay for take off. So when you change your seats, you are actually changing the balance of the plane, so make sure you always ask, just in case,” she continued. We never thought of it that way but that makes all of the sense in the world.

No one wants to feel like they’re responsible for throwing off a whole flight, that is for sure. Serenity was sure to let folks know that they can ask to change seats but they are not going to be able to bump you up. No free upgrades are being provided. Even pilots have been voicing their concerns, agreeing with Serenity’s video.

“If the [systems are] set wrong, then the aircraft may crash at take-off. Four passengers seated themselves forward from their assigned seats before take-off. My first officer was flying, and he experienced problems when he rotated the aircraft: It was very heavy. This was a very critical situation, because the runway was very short, and we would not have been able to stop,” shared Magnar Nordal, according to the New York Post.

Take the time to ask first and everything should be okay. Thanks to Serenity, we are now able to swap seats more comfortably and stay safe in the meantime. We would like to offer a special thank you to her for being so willing to share!
