Whether it’s a family gathering or a group social, holidays and the corresponding meals always have carbs in the form of delightful decadent breads, rolls, pastries, and their forever companion butter. But serving butter for a crowd can be, well, gross. The slices are inconsistent and sloppy, and crumbs get into the butter. Here this quick hack from a TikTok user cookfoodchannel shows how to proportion out butter.

Cut narrow and small rectangle strips of parchment paper and fold the strips of parchment paper in half over the blade of a knife.

Press the knife with the parchment paper into the stick of butter.

Pull out the knife, leaving the folded parchment paper in the sliced butter.

Repeat this process with the remaining strips of parchment paper. With this process, each pat of butter is portioned between the parchment paper, making it easy to separate and dole out without using a knife or having to touch the butter with your fingers or another utensil. This method is great for when you are making a brunch or buffet for a crowd. The butter is cleanly divided, and the leftover butter isn’t dirtied by used knives or crumbs of surrounding food.
