Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

It’s the holiday season, which also means that it’s the season of giving. A lot of people tend to feel a bit more generous around this time of year, and for people in the service industry, they’re seeing the benefits of peoples’ kindness.

This holiday season, there has been a string of very generous tippers leaving huge amounts for their servers at various restaurants across the country.

In San Antonio, Texas, one waitress working at a Cracker Barrel got a huge tip in the amount of $1,300! The waitress, Rachel Barney, is a single mom who was waiting on a group whose bill totaled $270.

She had no idea that as the group was getting ready to pay, customers Kevin Nies and his wife were taking up a group collection in order to give her the very generous tip.

Across the country at an IHOP in Ashburn, Virginia, another waitress was getting surprised with a $1,900 tip for “exceptional service.” A group of 19 diners had gone to the IHOP for breakfast as well as to perform a random act of kindness.

Each one of the group of 19 left behind a $100 dollar bill for the tip. The waitress, Rosa, was floored by the outpouring of generosity.

As was Roxana Salinas – a waitress at the Silver Diner in Columbia, Maryland – who was moved to tears after someone left her a $910 tip on a $25 check.

The grateful Roxana stated, “I started crying, I got so emotional. Very blessed. They got up and hugged me and they were crying with me saying, ‘Roxana, you make us cry.’ I said, ‘I’m sorry but this is so beautiful. You make me feel very special.'”

Then there was the instance in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, where a group of 20 diners decided that they wanted to “do something big that would change Christmas for their waitress,” and proceeded to leave waitress Ashley Sadler a $2,200 tip.

Two of the people couldn’t make it to the scheduled breakfast, so they gave the rest of their group their individual donations of $100 each. Ashley was so shocked to receive the generosity that she ended up crying and decided to share the money with her fellow staff members who were working that shift. Even after giving her coworkers a share of her money, she still had $920 left. Ashley, who is a single mom of four, was delighted that she’d be able to use the remaining money for her kids’ presents, saying, “I get to give them a good Christmas.”
