Parrot Steals Family’s GoPro At National Park And Films Its Getaway
While out for a day in Fiordland National Park in New Zealand, a family was enjoying the view at the Luxmore Hut when one of their prized possessions was stolen: their GoPro.
However, the thief wasn’t a typical person out looking to rob someone. Instead, it was a mischievous kea parrot looking for a snack!

According to the New Zealand Department of Conservation, endangered kea parrots are incredibly intelligent and are known to get into mischief. Keas have been known to do everything from locking someone in a toilet stall to playing tug-of-war with a cat, and apparently, filming some mid-flight GoPro footage.
As you can see in the footage below, the GoPro was set on the railing at the Luxmore Hut while filming. As it films, you can see a kea parrot slowly hop toward it, and suddenly, it swoops the camera up and flies away!

The GoPro continues to film as the parrot lands and starts pecking at it, eventually breaking off a chunk of plastic to munch on.
Eventually, a voice can be heard saying, “I found it,” as the parrot flies away. A young boy grabs the camera and the clip ends.

According to 1News, the owner of the GoPro, Alexandra Verheul, explained, “We just followed the sound down there, we could see them hanging out in a tree – they’d obviously heard us coming and abandoned the GoPro … My son decided to go check the rocks where it looked like a good place for a bird to land, and there it was still sitting there, still filming.”
