I would say that for 98% of the times I’ve made Corn on the Cob, I’ve grilled it. Firstly, because it’s delicious that way. The way the kernels get tinged a bit with flame and then caramelize? Amazing. Secondly, standing by the grill on a nice summer night is a delightful way to spend an evening. But what if it’s raining? Or what if your propane tank is empty or you’re out of charcoal? Or what if you just don’t feel like standing out at the grill? Well, my friends, then you can make your corn in the oven. It’s true. Oven Roasted Corn on the Cob is just as delicious as grilled corn and it’s the perfect solution when your grill is otherwise occupied.
So what do you need?
Not a lot! You need some corn on the cob, number dependent on how many people you want to serve. And then you’ll need some foil, and some butter, and whatever seasonings you like to put on your corn. (I start with salt and pepper and let people gussy it up as they wish before the eat.)
And how do you cook corn in the oven?
It’s easy.
You want to shuck your corn and clean it of any silks first. Then, you’re just going to coat that cob in butter, season it to your liking, and wrap it up in foil.
I like to place all the wrapped cobs on a baking sheet just in case any butter drips out but it’s not entirely necessary.
Then pop it in a 425° oven for about 25 minutes, giving the corn a turn halfway through the cooking time. And that’s it! Pretty set it and forget it way to get some great corn on the cob.
What if I don’t like butter?
Well, one, I don’t know that I’ve ever met anyone that doesn’t like butter, but if you’re the first or if you simply can’t have it, you can totally skip it. You can replace it with olive oil OR you can just skip it all together. The corn will steam in its foil wrapping and be tender and juicy and still very delicious.
What else can I season it with
Great question. I’m kind of a corn purist, so butter, salt, and plenty of black pepper are all I need, but really the world is your oyster here. You can sprinkle on some cayenne if you’re feeling a little spicy, or you could try garlic powder, Cajun seasoning, or your favorite seasoning blend.
