Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

There are few things that will inspire commentary from the online peanut gallery faster than parenting discussions.

Even people who do not have children will feel compelled to weigh in and we can see why when it comes to this particular story. This mother posted the lunch boxes that she put together for her little ones, with no idea what was waiting for her on the other side.

The internet has roasted her into oblivion. According to News.come.au, the lunch that she provides for her three-year-old and one-year-old contained seaweed, crackers, and cheese. “This is lunch for a one and three-year-old today. Sharp Cheddar cheese, crackers, and seaweed,” Rachel posted on Facebook, according to the outlet. All of the commentary was not negative initially.

While some praised her choice and said that this is what their children would eat, others were not having it. Some of the complaints were valid, some came across a bit more hateful. “My kids would devour this and then ask for something else,” said one parent. We have to agree with them. This would never be enough to fill our kids’ stomachs. “This is lunch? Or a snack? This wouldn’t fill up either of my kids at this age. But at least it’s healthy,” said another.

Others called this lunch a “mistake,” making us wonder what they serve their little ones. After all, if you are offering up critiques, you should also be quick to offer up solutions. Our kids would need more to ear but that does not mean that we think her meal choice is a bad one.

“Our kids are alike. My son is obsessed with seaweed. He could eat a 12 pack of them if you don’t watch him. Same with whole apples,” another parent chimed in. If you have children who are willing to eat in a healthy manner, it only makes sense that you would take the time to encourage that. As long as this meal works for this family, that is all that matters.

Mothers cannot worry about what the haters have to say when it is time to take care of their little ones. People are always going to have commentary when they see posts like this but it does not have to make or break our parenting styles.

We would like to take this moment to offer this mother a special shout-out. Keep doing you!
