If you’ve never had the opportunity to eat a Subway sandwich before, it really is worth trying. The motto of the food chain, “Eat Fresh,” puts them somewhere between a fast food restaurant and a healthy food option.

It also seems as if their sandwiches may come with an unexpected price tag, especially if you try to sneak one through customs while returning to Australia.

Perth model Jessica Lee talked about the situation, which ultimately cost her about $1,800 USD, on TikTok.

She had purchased the Subway before getting on the flight from Singapore because she was “famished.” The problem is, she only ate half of the foot-long sub and when she arrived down under, she forgot to declare the other 6 inches.

She said: “I ate six inches before my second flight and then saved the other six inches for the flight which they’re more than happy with.”

$1800 is quite a fine for half a Subway sandwich, but Lee was especially hangry over the situation because she quit her job before leaving.

She said: “I thought the little declaration thing you do is for your carry-ons and your luggage, so I didn’t tick chicken and I didn’t tick lettuce. Chicken and lettuce!”

Australia has some pretty strict laws on bio-security, so they levied a $2,664 AUS fine against her, which comes out to $1,803 USD.

Lee is now struggling to pay the fine because she has rent due but she only has 28 days to pay the $1,800.
