If you have ever gotten a beverage from McDonald’s, you have probably pondered the drink lid and all of the extras that come with it. There are all sorts of buttons and ridges that can be confusing to the average person.

That’s what makes a video shared by the Today Years Old Twitter account such an important one to watch.

“I was today years old when I learned … ” is a common phrase these days and it certainly applies in this instance.

In the since-deleted video, we get to see someone pushing the buttons around on this lid and it is pretty awesome. There are some who said that they already know all about the circular nubs, while others were claiming that the rectangular ones were more problematic to them.

The circular buttons, for those who are not aware, are meant to be used as a means of indicating what type of beverage is in the cup.

This is something that we always knew but we cannot lie, we were in the dark when it comes to the rectangular nubs. If you take a close enough look at the circular nubs, it is easy to tell. They have labels that you can read and they correspond to the beverage in question. So what about these rectangular nubs? We can hardly stand the mystery.

They are actually linked to the circular nubs. If a mistake is made with those, the rectangular nubs are used as a means of correcting it. If the wrong circular button is pressed down, there is a rectangular nub next to it and the mistake is corrected in a timely manner.

“Okay, usually I know these. I knew about pushing in the bubble, but I had no clue what that rectangular extrusion was,” one viewer shared in the comments.

We are in the same boat. “I don’t know why I would ever need to backspace but nice to know it can be done,” another viewer chimed in.
