Life’s not fair, and it’s especially not fair for dogs who are born into breeds with a misplaced reputation for being “aggressive,” like pit bulls.

Pit bulls often get the short end of the stick and are discriminated against by apartment buildings, home owner’s insurance, and even entire cities.

Sadly, they’re often the first to be put on euthanasia lists at kill shelters, and that’s exactly what happened to Max.

The sweet pit bull was dumped at a kill shelter because his owner didn’t want him anymore. He was deemed good with children, mellow, good with other animals, a cuddle bug, and a wanna-be lap dog. Despite his sweet and charming reputation, Max was quickly placed on the kill list because he was a pit bull.

Before he was killed, another kill shelter stepped in and took Max – but he was placed on the kill list at that shelter too. He needed someone to adopt him before his date with euthanasia arrived, but things weren’t looking hopeful.

But then, Lauryn walked into the shelter. She was a college student with several side jobs and no time or plan for a dog, but she wanted to visit the pups anyway. After meeting Max and seeing how he was so loving and sweet, but slated to be killed, she couldn’t stop thinking about him.

While it’s usually a bad idea to adopt a dog when you’re not in a good place to care for them, it all ended up working out for Lauryn and Max! She brought him home and he ended up being the perfect fit for her family. Despite her crazy schedule, she couldn’t be happier with Max and he seems to be loving life with her as well.
