I have been turning to Martha Stewart for classic recipes for decades now, and a classic Chicken Salad is precisely the kind of thing I would expect her to do well. (Spoiler alert: I was proven correct.) Martha Stewart’s Classic Chicken Salad is creamy — despite a very small amount of mayo — and full of fresh and bright herbs. It’s a chicken salad you’ll come back to time and time again!

What Ingredients Are in Martha Stewart’s Classic Chicken Salad?
It’s pretty simple! She calls for:
- Diced chicken. (We used rotisserie.)
- Red onion.
- Celery.
- Parsley.
- Lemon juice.
- Mayonnaise.
- Dijon mustard.
- And a dash of hot sauce.

How Do You Make Martha Stewart’s Classic Chicken Salad?
It really couldn’t be easier!
Since you’re starting with cooked chicken, you simply dice it up, chop the onion, celery, and parsley, and get it all into a bowl. Then you add the lemon juice, mayo, mustard, hot sauce, and some salt and pepper and stir it all up. Chicken salad done!

And it’s a great one. As far as I’m concerned, this is the ideal chicken salad to put on a sandwich as it’s relatively simple in flavor and easy to pair with your favorite sandwich ingredients. There aren’t any nuts or fruit for crunch, just the celery, so it’s a good candidate to pair with toasted bread or crackers. All that said, it tastes very fresh and bright, and has a nice herbaceous quality despite only having fresh parsley from the herb department. I was worried the small amount of mayo wouldn’t go far enough but it comes out plenty creamy and has a lighter quality than many other chicken salads. Very delicious!
