One of the industries that was hit by the coronavirus quarantine is the television industry. Many shows have suspended production or perhaps they have gotten creative when it comes to filming new episodes. If possible, the new shows are filmed while keeping the crew and cast social distancing, but for those of us at home, what we really want is new content. It seems as if HGTV has a way to do this with a new House Hunters viewing experience. It’s just what we need.

The new series is called “House Hunters: LOL” and it will have a comedian on a conference call providing commentary while an old episode of the show is being watched. It will be similar to what you and your friends probably do while watching the show on a Sunday afternoon from home, except it will be a professional giving the commentary. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

“House Hunters is a play-along phenomenon that has long inspired drinking games, snarky social media commentary, and spoofs on late-night television,” said Jane Latman, president, HGTV in a release. “While we’re #HomeTogether, House Hunters: LOL will amp up the fun by combining our favorite comedians with one of America’s favorite shows.”

It’s a great idea, and for those who are already fans of House Hunters, it will give a fresh look at something you have likely seen many times before. Considering the clientele and some of the previous episodes, there is plenty of material for a comedian to cover.

They are likely to also hit the fact that the dealbreaker is often a very replaceable or customizable part of the house.

That isn’t even to mention the unrealistic kitchen expectations of many of the house hunters. Think of how many times we’ve heard that it was updated just the year prior but now they want to redo the whole thing.

The commentary has also provided us a way to watch reruns and still enjoy them. I can imagine binge-watching this.

There is not yet any word on the episodes that will be included in this new series, nor is there information on which comedians will be involved. Then again, it’s House Hunters, so it really won’t matter.

House Hunters: LOL will run for a six-episode stint in June.
