If flavor packets are off-putting, then turn to this recipe for Homemade Taco Seasoning! A blend of simple pantry spices unite to create a spice blend packed with savory, spicy, and earth flavors.

Premade taco seasoning can be convenient in a pinch, but if you’re trying to watch your sodium or want more of a simple homemade alternative, then this recipe is for you!

By making your own spice blend from scratch, you control the amounts and can play around with what sort of flavors you want to be more prominent. What more of a garlic kick? Add more garlic. Want more spice? Sprinkle in some more chili flakes. Want lower sodium? Remove it from the spice mix entirely!

While you can play around with the flavors, it’s best to start with the base ingredients and then add and subtract from there.

To give the seasoning color and a mild smokey flavor, chili powder is a must alongside cumin and paprika, which also enhance the earthy smokey flavor you want.

Next comes salt and black pepper, which enhances the flavors of the other spices. Finally, the garlic powder, oregano, and red pepper flakes in the mix compliment the initial spices and add an additional bit of herbaceous notes as well.

Mixed together and stored in a glass jar, this Homemade Taco Seasoning is ready for use! It adds just the right amount of heat while delivering herbal and savory elements. You can double or triple the recipe to accommodate your cooking needs, as it stores well in a cool, dark space. Simple, easy, and packed full of flavor – this spice mix truly delivers!
