Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

There are many who find themselves debating the necessity of AirBnB as prices continue to rise, the rules become more onerous and startling discoveries are made.

That last point is particularly important when it comes to the woman that you are about to meet. She hails from Canada and she was looking to stay at an AirBnB with some friends for her 30th birthday.

She shared on TikTok that she rented a place with 14 of her friends, never expecting what ended up happening next.

Kennedy Calwell says that one of her friends guessed that the house had cameras inside, even though everyone else told her that she was paranoid. Once they went searching, their worst fears were confirmed and our hearts certainly go out to them!

This is a terrible thing to have to go through and an insane violation of a person’s privacy. “In the bathroom, one of the outlets was faced directly to the shower,” Caldwell shared in the TikTok video. She included a clip of a faulty outlet that did not seem to be working and when she took a closer look, she found that there were little holes in it and that there was also a camera inside.

They immediately “freaked out” and the police were contacted. Unfortunately, they did not make this discovery until after they had already likely been watched in the shower the night before. “We left the house, the cops searched the place and they got them [the cameras],” she shared.

“Part of me was not convinced it was real and then they found the cameras,” she said. Caldwell showed text messages to the audience as well, indicating that the cameras had been removed and that the police would be conducting an interview with the owners of the home in short order.

“The owners of the house claimed they didn’t know anything about hidden cameras but they were renting the place out to someone,” she explained.

In her video, her story concluded with the following pearl of wisdom: “The moral of the story is, always check your outlets for cameras at your Airbnb and always listen to your super paranoid friends.”

For what its worth, AirBnB did try to address the situation. “We ban hidden cameras and we are investigating these allegations,” an Airbnb spokesperson said, according to News.com.au. “The guest who booked this reservation has received a full refund.”
