More and more frequently, people are turning to thrift stores to find the items that they need. Undoubtedly, it’s a great way to save money but it can also lead to problems where all of the good items are snatched up quickly.

If you do any shopping at Goodwill, you may have noticed that there is a severe lack of interesting bargains at the store in recent years. You might even think that this is because more people are shopping at Goodwill but there is something else behind it.

This was laid out in a video from someone claiming to be a former employee of Goodwill. They say that there are other reasons why the good bargains are noticeably missing from the store, and it seems as if Goodwill is behind it.

According to that former employee: “Five or six years ago, I used to work for Goodwill and I was one of their Drive Thru Ambassadors. A Drive-Thru Ambassador is in charge of taking in donations that get donated from the cars and pricing them so they could be put out on the floor.”

Part of his job was knowing what items were worth. His employers told him that if they ever saw something that they thought was valuable, it should be taken to the manager. The manager would then put it in their e-commerce store rather than putting it on the shelves of the local store.

Apparently, Goodwill has an online store that runs on an auction, similar to eBay. The more valuable items are sent to Goodwill headquarters because they will demand a higher price than what they would get if they were sold at the local store.

He went on to say: “A lot of times nowadays you can’t find really good items at Goodwill because they’re all being sent off.”

In addition, there are certain items they get scanned, such as video games and books. When scanning those items, they would single out the ones that were more valuable so they could get sold on the e-commerce store as well.

He explains that is why you don’t find any good games or DVDs at the store any longer either.
