The creamy texture of vegetables coated in mayo is one my taste buds crave. As a huge fan of coleslaw, this combination of ingredients is crave-able to me when I see them. It’s like a coleslaw, but no cabbage just celery. Are you wondering how it tastes yet? It’s light, with a sweetness from the walnuts and a tanginess from the apple. The celery root adds a crisp crunch of texture without much celery flavor and is a welcome substitute for cabbage. I found this recipe watching a YouTube video of a French family vlogging for a dinner party. She bought a ton of deli salads, frozen appetizers, and fresh desserts for her big dinner party.

Deli salads are my new obsession this year. They are loaded with flavor and can stem from just one new ingredient. We have coleslaw, but do we have celery slaw? I’m all about recipes that can accompany a multitude of different entrees like BBQ foods, Picnics at the beach, Burger night, hot dog night, and even winter potlucks.

This slaw contains many watery vegetables, so unlike cabbage you will need to toss it before you serve it. After it’s refrigerated, I like to add the slaw into a mixing bowl, freshen it up with some extra lemon juice, then add my favorite addition, the candied walnuts.

I brought this over to my partners house after and we ate this alongside hot dogs and corn on the cob. It was spectacular. It gives coleslaw a whole new look without any of the gassiness.

The bulk of the process in making this slaw is all in the chopping and grating. It’s a 10 minute recipe because it only takes 10 minutes to chop everything up and toss all together. Make substitutes as you like and definitely take photos of yours and send to 12 Tomatoes. We would love to see how yours turned out.

Don’t ever stop bringing the things you cook to share with others. Bring this to your friends house, even for a stop-over. It’s a universally loved deli salad that you can now enjoy here in the US.
